The Vasarely Family Affair

The series portrays the life of Michèle Taburno-Vasarely, the daughter-in-law of the famous artist Victor Vasarely, who lives in a historic building in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Despite her age, she remains lively and active, surrounded by cats and a museum-like collection of art and furniture. Her home—mixing op-art with various styles—reflects her passion for romance, family, and creativity.

In April 2023, the FBI conducted a search of her home and, amid a long-running legal dispute, seized 112 artworks by Vasarely and his son, Yvaral. Pierre Vasarely, Victor’s grandson, wants the works returned to the Vasarely Foundation, while Michèle claims she received them as lawful gifts. The case has ignited a legal and cultural debate between France and the United States.
