Gábor rolls a cigarette in his shelter in Drégelypalánk. (2016)

Their small house is located at the far end of the Roma settlement. Gábor inhibited the abandoned place in 2014. (2017)

They supplement their income with money earned from collecting snails and picking mushroom and herb. They can harvest up to 15 kg of herbs at each occasion, which the vendor then takes to the surrounding towns or even to Budapest for resale. (2017)

They do the house chores together, although Gábor prefers to repair things, while Kálmán likes picking berries and herbs. (2017)

Their favourite pastime activities are watching TV, playing cards and having a drink. (2017)

After one of their quarrels, Kálmán moved to Becske for a few months. (2018)

In the absence of running water, they fetch everything they need for cleaning and cooking from wells in the village. (2017)

As they were both outcast and were feeling alone, they found each other and became the other's only support. (2017)

The first Friday of every month is payday. Gábor goes to the local pub for two or three days, mostly alone these days. (2022)

Since Kálmán's passing, Gábor has started to attend a faith community in Drégelypalánk, where he learns to play church hymns on the guitar. He feels that being close to God will help him to maintain a more meaningful life. (2022)

Gábor at the banks of the Ipoly river. They used to come here together for fishing and drinking. Gábor often mentions that Kálmán was his true soulmate, and that he won’t find that in anyone ever again. (2022)
